(Phnom Penh) – Investors and shareholders of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd., have formally requested the intervention of the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia in response to alleged financial misconduct by the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei.
The complaints claim that Yamada, a Japanese national, abused his position to engage in embezzlement, misappropriation, and other breaches of trust in the company’s business operations. According to preliminary investigations, approximately USD 4 million may have been diverted for personal gain and that of his associates.
Allegations include the unilateral creation of fictitious business transactions, including loan arrangements totaling over USD 7 million, the use of prominent Japanese company names to mislead investors, forgery of documents, and large-scale irregular cash transfers involving multiple shell companies. Some of the funds were reportedly transferred to bank accounts abroad, including one held in the name of Yamada’s Chinese wife.
It is also alleged that Yamada established shell companies across Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia, appointing nominees as official representatives while personally controlling all financial operations.
In Cambodia, Yamada and his associates are facing charges in at least two criminal cases, with several assets and bank accounts frozen by court orders. Authorities in multiple countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are reportedly investigating him for embezzlement, forgery, breach of trust, and potential money laundering.
Through formal letters to the Ministry of Justice, victims have called for thorough investigations and for courts to ensure that justice is served. They expressed concerns about possible interference from influential individuals, including judicial actors, that could obstruct the legal process, intimidate witnesses, or compromise evidence.
The victims hope that the Cambodian legal system will act decisively to hold the accused accountable and safeguard the integrity of the judicial process.
